I had already expressed this thought about audiobooks almost 4 years ago, after reading an article online. I recently read other articles in which they not only praised audiobooks, but believed that listening to an audiobook was the same thing as reading a book . And I absolutely disagree with this. Taking an extreme example, we could almost say that watching a film based on a book is the same thing as reading it. But obviously it's an extreme example, because a film interprets the novel and it's all based on images and dialogue. Reading and listening: the difference There is a huge difference between reading and listening : reading is a form of active consumption of the book, while listening is a passive act .
Listening is endured: those who listen to an audiobook Special Data must adapt to the reading speed of the narrative voice, its rhythm and its tones. Listening to the audiobook thus becomes an adaptation to his personal interpretations of the story. Audiobooks don't increase the number of readers, but rather the number of listeners. Read to improve writing One of the most important functions of reading books is improving your writing . Reading a good book – but what is a good book ? Maybe you need a special article to explain it - a book written correctly in Italian, I mean in this case, with accents and punctuation in the right places, grammatically flawless, by reading a good book you can internalize the grammatical rules put into practice by the author. You learn to write not only by writing, but also by reading. Listening to an audiobook certainly can't improve your writing.
Audiobooks can be very useful to those who don't know our language: to draw a parallel, you improve a foreign language by watching films in the original language, not dubbed. While reading we observe the spelling of the words, which is not understood with audiobooks: "a friend" and "a friend" have the same sound, ditto for "a little", "a little" or even "a little ”. If the narrator gets an accent wrong, the sentence can take on a different meaning. A famous journalist said on TV: "Trump came with them" and I therefore understood "Trump came with gold"... that is, with ingots in his pocket? The same journalist who pronounces the verb form “è” as the conjunction “and”. Extreme cases, again. But what if they happened? Reading is a personal experience And I shouldn't say anything else here. By listening to an audiobook we are witnessing the personal experience of reading the narrative voice.
